Eminent Domain

Until today I had not heard of the term 'eminent domain'. Eminent Domain gives the government(Federal, State, and Local) the ability to force people to sell their home, land or any other property for govermental use. The government does not have to disclose what the property will be used for. They simply have to find a property they want and make you an offer. Many times the offer they make to you will not be a fair market value. On Fox News today I saw that Congress is attempting to pass legislation that would try to curb the federal government's abuse of the use of eminent domain. Fox News had no information about whether State or local governments will be affected by this legislation. If the government wants to come in and buy my house they should be required by law to offer me at least fair market value. I think they should even have to offer 10% over fair market value for the inconvenience they cause the person(s) they are trying to move. I will be interested to see what develops with this story in the coming months. For now that is all. Thank you for choosing DNN.
