Let's Hear Something New!

It annoys me that news programs like CNN, MSNBC, and even Fox News seem to cover the same story over and over. It is important to keep the public updated on developments, but when there is nothing new to say don't just repeat what is already common knowledge. I think I have heard about all the arrests made in London, Italy, and Zambia about 100 times in the last few days. I am a big fan of the Fox News Network, but even they are guilty of over covering a news story. There has to be other news going on in the world that they can cover. I often find myself changing the channel because I get so annoyed with seeing something over and over again, and I am sure that you feel the same way. I don't know how one would go about changing this problem, but I will promise that I will not discuss the same story over and over unless there is a major development worthy of discussing here. 7/7 Bombing Mastermind in Custody

Haroon Rashid Aswat was arrested in Zambia today. He is thought to be the mastermind of the 7/7 attacks that killed more than 50 people. It is also believed that Italy may be the next target of terrorist attacks. There has been increased chatter over the internet that leads authorities to believe that Rome may be attacked sometime in the near future. I am sure Italian officials are doing everything in their power to stop any attack from happening. Terrorism will be a problem as long as the terrorists have the financial ability to buy weapons and supplies for making bombs. We need to find those who are supporting the terrorist cells and deal with them the same way as the terrorists themselves. We are, I believe, winning the war against terrorism all over the world, but I think we are still a long way from seeing the end of this war. Similarly to things in Iraq, the situation may get worse before it gets better. I am not trying to scare anyone by saying this, but I hope that everyone is expecting the unexpected. As soon as we let our guard down the terrorists will strike. I would propose that the government continues, for a while, to step up security at airports, subways, etc. We need to be as vigilant now as we were immediately following the 9/11 attacks. Eminent Domain

Until today I had not heard of the term 'eminent domain'. Eminent Domain gives the government(Federal, State, and Local) the ability to force people to sell their home,land or any other property for govermental use. The government does not have to disclose what the property will be used for. They simply have to find a property they want and make you an offer. Many times the offer they make to you will not be a fair market value. On Fox News today I saw that Congress is attempting to pass legislation that would try to curb the federal government's abuse of the use of eminent domain. Fox News had no information about whether State or local governments will be affected by this legislation. If the government wants to come in and buy my house they should be required by law to offer me at least fair market value. I think they should even have to offer 10% over fair market value for the inconvenience they cause the person(s) they are trying to move. I will be interested to see what develops with this story in the coming months. For now that is all. Thank you for choosing DNN.

***Special Report***Space Shuttle Discovery launches successfully

Two and a half years ago as the Columbia Shuttle crew made their way home from a mission in space disaster struck. Upon their re-entry the shuttle exploded and all the crew members were killed. Today as the Space Shuttle Discovery made its way into space we can only hope and pray that they make it home safely when it is their time to come home. the launch was a success, but it appeared that several pieces of a yet undisclosed material were seen breaking off of the ship. NASA will do everything in their power to make sure the astronauts aboard the shuttle make it home safely, but one must wonder if what broke off the ship is the same thing that caused the tragedy two and a half years ago. My prayers will be with the members of the crew as they continue on with their mission.

I support John Roberts for Supreme Court Justice.

I have been keeping an eye on this process for a little while now and the thing that bothers me the most about it is that opponents of Roberts are using his the views of his wife to try to make him look un-qualified. His wife is a pro-life advocate and that has many liberals in Congress upset because they think that she will influence his decisions while he serves as Supreme Court Justice. George Bush nominated this man because he truly believes that John Roberts is the best candidate for the job. Bush nominated Mr. Roberts in May of 2001 for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and he was finally confirmed in May 0f 2003. Bush would not nominate someone who he didn't think was competent to do the job as best as possible. The people who are trying to make Roberts look bad are the liberals who are worried that he is going to immediately over turn the Roe v.Wade decision. Personally I think it should be overturned. There I said it. I am against abortion and I think it is wrong. Why should we get to deny someone the chance to live. When someone has an abortion they are keeping that child from ever getting a chance to experience everything this world has to offer. The only thing that child will ever know is the pain of being murdered before it gets to enter this world. John Roberts is more than qualified to be Supreme Court Justice. Terrorist bombings...Are they all connected?

There are many folks who will say no to this question. I think it is a little too convenient that the bombings in London and the bombing in Egypt happened so closely together. It takes massive co-operation by hundreds of people to plan attacks like the ones we have seen recently in London and Egypt. Granted these might not be the exact same people, but I think there is a definite connection between the attacks. Bin-Laden probably does not make all the calls on who to attack or even when to attack so that means that he has Lieutenants all over the place that do his will. Nobody knows for sure how large an organization like Al-Qaida is but you can bet it is massive, membership probably in the hundreds of thousands. I must say that I am surprised that our country has not been attacked again. It has been nearly four years since the 9/11 bombings and the world we live in today is a very different place than it used to be. I truly believe that the recent attacks are connected. They may not be planned by the same people, but I think they are from Al-Qaida. I think they will also attack again and soon. Our government has done a spectacular job of foiling many would-be terrorists from killing countless innocents, but it is only a matter of time before they miss something and our country again sees itself under attack. My brother made a good point the other day. He said 'the bill of rights was written for a much different time period. For our safety to remain intact we must be willing to sacrifice some of our freedoms.' Many people will look at that statement and they will shoot it down. They will say that if we give up one freedom then the government will take them all. I disagree. I think as responsible citizens it is our civic duty to do what we must to protect the United States of America. If that means that the government wants to tap my phone or read my e-mail then so be it. I have nothing to hide. The only people the government is interested in gathering information on are the the people who make themselves out to be suspicious. If you are innocent and have nothing to hide then why fight what is inevitably going to happen. I know I got a little off topic here, but I needed to go that route because if I titled this post 'Let's give up some of our freedoms' how many of you would have actually taken the time to read this post at all?
