Stem Cell Research...Where Do You Stand?
I am sure you have been hearing about stem cell research quite often these days. Chances are you may have already knew a little something about this subject. Stem Cell research refers to the use of stem cells that are capable of being developed into more specialized groups of cells. For instance, scientists have claimed that stem cells could eventually be used to cure deaf children and allow them to hear as well as you and I. Many people, I believe, can see the usefulness of such a treatment. However, I do not agree with allowing human embryonic stem cells to be used for stem cell research. Scientists have agreed that human embryonic stem cells could provide greater results, but I feel that destroying an embryo to pursue any cause is wrong. I think it is as wrong as abortion. I think that using human embryonic stem cells could possibly lead to human cloning and that is not something that we humans should tamper with. I think that using stem cell research to treat people with diseases is a wonderful thing as long as human embryonic stem cells are not used. As I stated earlier you have probably been hearing a great deal lately about stem cell research. Senator Bill Frist has been all over the news showing his support to reduce the restrictions on stem cell research put in place by President Bush. This would include allowing human embryonic stem cells to be used freely. It is expected that President Bush will veto any bill that would call for allowing the use of human embryonic stem cells. If you have been keeping track of this story you also know that Congress will probably not vote on this bill until September. It is at that time that we shall see what direction this country is heading. What do you think we should do?
